Then, slowly squeezing the bottle, empty its contents into the rectum. The patient should try to contract the anal sphincter. After instilling the solution into the intestine, the patient should remain in one of the described positions for 2-5 minutes until a feeling of urgency occurs, and then defecate. Positioning with the pelvis above head level is most effective. This can be achieved by placing a blanket or pillow under the pelvis.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cspan dir=\"auto\"\u003eIn cases of anal stenosis or defects in the anal mucosa, the procedure can be performed by extending the rigid tip of the bottle with a soft catheter, such as a Foley catheter. A similar technique should be used for enema through an artificial anus. In patients with an artificial anus and in patients with primary or secondary electrolyte imbalance, the drug should be used with great caution; monitoring of electrolyte levels is recommended. If bleeding or severe intestinal cramps occur during or after rectal administration, the procedure should be discontinued and a physician consulted.
