Pharmacodynamics
Vitex extract (Agnus castus) contains several substances, including flavonoids, iridoids, glycosides and terpenoids. Vitex does not contain hormones.

Another study concluded that women who took Vitex extract had greater relief of PMS symptoms than those who took vitamin B6.
An overview of a number of studies shows that Vitex extract (Agnus castus) is recommended for women with irregular menstrual cycles, infertility and elevated prolactin levels. There are even studies in which Vitex extract is recommended for acne associated with PMS.
