- The medicinal product Luminastil 50mg contains diphenhydramine hydrochloride as the active substance. It is a drug with a hypnotic and sedative effect, which is indicated for short-term use in sporadic insomnia in adults.
Composition of Diphenhydramine hydrochloride, Luminastil 50mg:
Active substance: diphenhydramine hydrochloride (Diphenhydramini hydrochloridum). Each tablet contains 50 mg of diphenhydramine hydrochloride and excipients: lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, corn starch, colloidal anhydrous silica, magnesium stearate.
Action of Diphenhydramine hydrochloride, Luminastil 50mg:
Medicine for adults. The medicinal product Luminastil 50mg contains diphenhydramine hydrochloride. It is a substance belonging to the group of antihistamines. Diphenhydramine has a sleep-inducing and sedative effect. It shortens the time it takes to fall asleep and increases the depth and quality of sleep. The drug is indicated for short-term use in sporadic insomnia in adults. Typically, sporadic insomnia occurs when you have difficulty falling asleep, wake up frequently at night, wake up early in the morning due to stress or change of time zones. Sleep disorders may have a negative impact on physiological processes and also lead to a decline in psychophysical fitness. Insomnia is said to occur when the length of time it takes to fall asleep exceeds 30 minutes, waking up during the night lasts longer than half an hour in total (such disruptions occur at least three nights a week), and the quality of sleep is poor, resulting in fatigue or reduced psychophysical performance during the day. Temporary sleep disorders may result from factors such as stress, illnesses, anxiety, personal or work problems, and time zone fatigue. Please remember that taking medications is not the primary method of treating sleep disorders and should be limited to short-term use only. The medicine should not be used to treat chronic sleep disorders.
Application:
The medicinal product Luminastil 50mg is indicated for short-term use in sporadic insomnia in adults.
Additional information:
Store the product out of the reach of children, at room temperature. It is recommended to protect against moisture and light. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine if you have myasthenia gravis (a disease causing excessive muscle weakness), epilepsy or seizure disorders, angle-closure glaucoma (an eye disease involving increased pressure in the eye), you have an enlarged prostate or difficulty urinating (urinary retention), you have asthma, bronchitis or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), you have moderate or severe liver or kidney problems, you are elderly (over 65 years old) - you have greater likelihood of side effects. Stop taking this medicine if you notice any symptoms or signs of heart rhythm problems and contact your doctor immediately. If insomnia persists, contact your doctor as it may be a symptom of a serious underlying disease. Cases of diphenhydramine abuse and dependence have been reported in young adults and/or in people with psychiatric disorders with a pre-existing history of drug abuse disorder. If you notice any signs of dependence or abuse of the drug, report it to your doctor immediately. Diphenhydramine should be used for the shortest possible time. This medicine may be less effective if taken continuously. Use of the drug may lead to the development of tolerance and/or addiction. The drug may affect the results of allergy tests - discontinue use at least 3 days before the tests. Use in children and adolescents: do not use under 18 years of age. Use with other medicines: please discuss this with your doctor. The medicine may enhance the effect of some medicines. Do not use this medicine if you are taking medicines for heart rhythm problems or medicines that affect the heart rhythm. Do not take with other antihistamines, including medicines applied to the skin or medicines used to treat coughs and colds. You should consult your doctor if you are taking medications such as: sedatives, hypnotics and anxiolytics - diphenhydramine may enhance their sedative effect; monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs - drugs used to treat depression) - prolong and intensify the effect of diphenhydramine. The drug should be used with caution with MAO inhibitors and within two weeks after their discontinuation; tricyclic antidepressants (used to treat depression, such as amitriptyline, doxepin) - diphenhydramine may intensify their effect; venlafaxine (a medicine used to treat depression); atropine (a medicine used to dilate the pupil of the eye); metoprolol (a medicine used to treat high blood pressure, heart problems and prevent migraines). Use with alcohol: you must not drink alcohol during treatment. Use during pregnancy and breastfeeding: discuss this with your doctor, do not use the drug during pregnancy or breastfeeding. Driving and using machines: this is a sedative drug, after taking the last dose of the drug you should not drive or operate machinery for at least 8 hours. Additionally, the drug may cause dizziness, blurred vision, disturbances in attention, psychomotor disorders and decreased reactions - if these occur, you should not drive or operate machinery. The medicine contains lactose monohydrate - if you have been previously diagnosed with intolerance to some sugars, consult your doctor before using the medicine.
Contraindications:
Do not use in case of hypersensitivity to any ingredient of the drug. Do not use if the patient has a scarring gastric ulcer (damage to the gastric mucosa or the initial section of the intestine). Do not use in case of stomach or intestinal obstruction (caused by e.g. peptic ulcer). Do not use if you have an adrenal gland tumor (pheochromocytoma), heart problems called QT prolongation, cardiovascular disease or low heart rate, low blood electrolytes (e.g. low potassium or magnesium). Do not use if you have a heart rhythm disorder or are taking medications that may affect your heart rhythm. Do not use if a sudden death due to heart disease occurred in the patient's immediate family.
Side effects:
Some people may experience side effects while using the medicine. If you experience the following symptoms, stop taking the medicine immediately and seek medical help: angioedema (severe allergic reaction - sudden swelling of the lips, tongue, throat, face, limbs or joints without itching or pain) - swelling in the head and neck may cause difficulty in swallowing and breathing; rash (itchy, red lumps on the skin); hives (light pink, itchy blisters on the skin); shortness of breath (frequency unknown). Other side effects: often – fatigue, sedation; somnolence; attention disorders; difficulty maintaining balance, dizziness; dry mouth; frequency unknown – gastrointestinal disorders, including nausea, vomiting; confusion, paradoxical arousal (e.g. increased energy, restlessness, nervousness); convulsions, headaches; paresthesia (a feeling of tingling, numbness or change in skin temperature); dyskinesia (uncoordinated and involuntary movements of the limbs or the whole body, bending and stretching, involuntary movements of the lips, protruding and retracting the tongue); blurred vision; tachycardia (rapid heartbeat), palpitations (uneven, fast heartbeat); thickening of bronchial secretions (phlegm); muscle tremors; difficulty urinating, urinary retention. Elderly people (over 65 years of age) are more susceptible to confusion and paradoxical agitation.
Dosage of Diphenhydramine hydrochloride, Luminastil 50mg tablets:
Use the medicine as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the leaflet. Medicine for oral use. Recommended dose for adults: if necessary, take one tablet 20 minutes before bedtime. Do not exceed the recommended dose and dosing frequency. Maximum daily dose: 1 tablet. Do not take an additional tablet when you wake up during the night. Duration of treatment: treatment should be as short as possible. Do not use for longer than 7 days without consulting a doctor. If there is no improvement or worsening after 7 days of treatment, please consult your doctor.
