Doxylamine hydrogen succinate is the active substance of Dorminox 12.5mg. It belongs to the group of antihistamines, has a sedative and hypnotic effect. The drug is indicated for the short-term, symptomatic treatment of occasional insomnia in adults, mainly in the event of: difficulty falling asleep, frequent night awakenings, early morning awakening due to stress or changing time zones.

Additional information:
Keep the product out of reach of children, at room temperature. It is recommended to protect against moisture and light. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine in the following situations: mild or moderate liver or kidney problems (this may require an adjustment of your dose); epilepsy (antihistamines can sometimes cause hyperactivity and, as a result, lower the threshold for seizures); QT interval prolongation on the ECG (heart disease causing sudden changes in heart rate in response to exercise or stress); low blood potassium or other electrolyte disturbances; urinary retention; heart diseases; taking other medications that may be harmful to the ear, such as carboplatin or cisplatin, chloroquine, certain antibiotics such as erythromycin or injectable aminoglycosides, as this medicine may mask the harmful effects of these medicines on your hearing. If daytime drowsiness occurs, it is recommended to reduce the dose or take the dose earlier to ensure that there is at least an 8-hour interval between taking the drug and waking up. The drug may exacerbate the symptoms of dehydration and heat stroke caused by reduced sweating, mainly in hot weather. Caution should be exercised especially in the elderly. Do not drink alcohol while using the drug. Impact on laboratory tests: the drug may affect the results of allergic skin tests, it is recommended to stop using the drug at least 3 days before the tests. Use in children and adolescents: the drug is not indicated for children and adolescents under 18 years of age. Use with other medicines: please discuss this with your doctor or pharmacist. This medicine is not used with the following medicines: monoamine oxidase inhibitors (e.g. moclobemide, phenelzine and tranylcypromine, isocarboxazid, linezolid, methylene blue, procarbazine, rasagiline and selegiline); medicines used to treat abnormal heart rhythm (amiodarone); certain macrolide antibiotics (clarithromycin, erythromycin, telithromycin); certain medicines that lower blood lipids (gemfibrozil); certain medicines used to treat depression (e.g. fluoxetine, fluvoxamine, paroxetine, nefazodone, bupropion); antiviral protease inhibitors (indinavir, ritonavir, telaprevir); azole antifungals (fluconazole, ketoconazole, itraconazole, voriconazole) and terbinafine, quinidine (antiarrhythmic medicine). Contraindications:
Do not use in case of hypersensitivity to any component of the drug. Do not use if you are allergic to other antihistamines (anti-allergy drugs). Do not use if you have respiratory disorders such as asthma, chronic bronchitis or emphysema. Do not use in case of glaucoma. Do not use if you have prostatic hyperplasia, obstruction of urine flow from the bladder (urinary system disease) or difficulty urinating. Do not use in the case of narrowing of the digestive tract due to peptic ulcer or pyloric-duodenal stenosis. Do not use in case of severe renal and hepatic impairment. Do not use when using monoamine oxidase inhibitors. Side effects:
Side effects may occur in some people. Side effects caused by doxylamine are usually mild and transient, more often occurring during the first few days of treatment. Very common: somnolence. Common: blurred vision, vertigo, increased bronchial mucus secretion, dry mouth, constipation, urinary retention, insomnia, agitation, dizziness, headache, upper abdominal pain, fatigue. Uncommon: double vision, tinnitus (ringing in the ears), orthostatic hypotension, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, skin rash, asthenia (fatigue), peripheral edema (arms and legs), nightmares, shortness of breath (shortness of breath), indigestion feeling relaxed. Rare: reduction in the number of red blood cells, white blood cells or platelets agitation (particularly in the elderly), tremor, seizures. Not known: general malaise. Other side effects commonly caused by antihistamines that have not been seen with doxylamine include: arrhythmias (changes in heart rate), palpitations, bile reflux, abnormal liver function (cholestatic jaundice), prolonged QT interval on ECG (heart disease loss of appetite, increased appetite, muscle pain, coordination disorder, extrapyramidal disorder (movement disorder), paraesthesia (sensory disorder), psychomotor disorder (sensory or motor coordination), depression, decreased secretion of mucus in the bronchi, alopecia, allergic dermatitis, excessive sweating, sensitivity to light, hypotension (low blood pressure). The severity and frequency of side effects can be reduced by reducing the daily dose. People over 65 years of age are more at risk of side effects.

Use the drug as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the leaflet. Adults - the recommended starting dose is 12.5mg (one tablet) taken 30 minutes before bedtime; the dose may be increased to 25mg (two tablets) if the initial dose does not provide sufficient relief of insomnia symptoms. Before taking doxylamine, make sure you have enough time to sleep (8 hours) to avoid feeling sleepy the next morning (if you feel sleepy during the day, it is advisable to take your dose early to ensure there is at least an 8 hour gap between until you wake up, or if you take a 25mg dose, reduce the next dose to 12.5mg). The maximum daily dose: 25mg (two tablets). Consult your doctor if you have persistent sleep problems. The tablets should be swallowed 30 minutes before the planned bedtime, washed down with an appropriate amount of liquid (e.g. a glass of water). The medicine can be taken with or after food. The tablet can be broken if you have trouble swallowing it whole. The score line does not divide the tablet into two equal doses. Use in elderly patients: dose reduction may be required. The recommended starting dose is 12.5mg, administered 30 minutes before bedtime. The dose may be increased to 25mg if the initial dose proves ineffective. If side effects occur, the dose must be reduced to 12.5 mg. Use in patients with impaired liver and / or kidney function: in severe disorders, the use of the drug is contraindicated; with moderate liver and/or kidney diseases, consult a doctor. With mild liver and/or kidney dysfunction, the doctor will recommend reducing the daily dose to 12.5 mg. Use in children and adolescents: the use of the drug is not indicated below 18 years of age. Do not exceed the recommended dosage. Duration of treatment: treatment should be as short as possible, usually lasting up to a week. Do not use for more than 7 days without consulting your doctor.
