• Always take the medicine exactly as directed. Please check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
• Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, the usual dose is:
  • Adults and older children take (preferably in the evening) ½ - 1 cube (equivalent to 5 - 10 mg sodium picosulfate).
  • Younger children from the age of 4 receive 2.5 to 5 mg of sodium picosulfate if expressly prescribed by a doctor. The drug is available as a solution for this purpose.
  • The laxative effect usually sets in after 10 to 12 hours.

  • Antibiotics (agents that kill bacteria) can reduce or eliminate the effectiveness of the drug.
  • The drug can cause increased excretion of potassium in the stool. If other medications are taken at the same time that cause potassium loss, e.g. B. certain diuretics (water tablets) and corticosteroids (adrenal cortex hormones), this can lead to potassium deficiency with disorders of heart function and muscle weakness. Sensitivity to certain drugs (cardioactive glycosides) that increase the heart's performance may be increased.

Contraindications

• Constipation, together with other symptoms such as abdominal pain, vomiting and fever, can be signs of a serious illness (intestinal obstruction, acute inflammation of the abdomen). If you experience such symptoms, you must not take or take other medicines and you should consult your doctor immediately.
• In the case of illnesses that are associated with disturbances in the water and mineral salt balance (e.g. severely restricted kidney function), you may only take the drug under medical supervision.
