- Gealcid is used in diseases of heartburn (also occurring during pregnancy), gastroesophageal reflux (acid reflux), hiatal hernia.Incidentally or ad hoc basis in chronic gastritis
Composition:
1 tablet. It contains 350 mg of alginic acid, 120 mg sodium bicarbonate and 100 mg of aluminum hydroxide. Action:Preparation composite action neutralizer, shielding and slightly astringent mucous membrane of esophagus, stomach and duodenum. It also has a slight anti-inflammatory and local anesthetic. Aluminum hydroxide and sodium bicarbonate have an antacid in the stomach. Alginic acid environment of the gastric juice forms a gelatinous gel that protects the mucous membrane of the stomach and esophagus from the effects of acidic gastric contents.Sodium hydroxide in the stomach rapidly reacts with hydrochloric acid thereby forming sodium chloride, carbon dioxide and water.Sodium bicarbonate and excreted by the kidneys. The aluminum hydroxide is not soluble in the stomach, on reaction with hydrochloric acid formed aluminum chloride and water. Approximately 17-30% of aluminum chloride and intestinal absorbed by the kidneys. The remainder is converted into the small intestine to the insoluble and poorly absorbable aluminum compounds which, within the small intestine form insoluble aluminum phosphate excreted in the feces. Alginic acid is insoluble in water and alcohol. It is not metabolized and is not absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract unchanged is excreted in the faeces. Indications: Heartburn (also occurring during pregnancy), gastroesophageal reflux (acid reflux), hiatal hernia. Incidentally or ad hoc basis in chronic gastritis, reflux oesophagitis, peptic ulcer of the stomach and duodenum. Contraindications: Hypersensitivity to the components of the preparation. Severe renal failure.Pregnancy and lactation: In pregnancy due to the sodium content used only if the expected benefits of treatment are greater than the risk of edema. Special care to keep in toxemia of pregnancy. The drug can be used during breastfeeding. Undesirable effects:Constipation and excessive loss of phosphorus. Long-term use in patients on dialysis can cause or exacerbate osteomalacia and increase the risk of encephalopathy. Long-term use of aluminum compounds can cause electrolyte disturbances (increasing the concentration of aluminum phosphate decreased). Sodium bicarbonate overdose can cause alkalosis and edema occur. Interactions: It distorts the absorption of many drugs, especially tetracycline, as well as anti-inflammatory drugs, anti-rheumatic, preparations of iron used in anemia, oral anticoagulants, digoxin, vitamins. These drugs should be administered 1 hour before or 2 hours after taking the product. Dosage:Oral: Adults and children over 12 r.ż .: 2 tab. once. Children under 12 r.ż .: 1 tablet. once.
