  • Maalox contains a combination of magnesium and aluminum hydroxides, which have the properties of local neutralizing the excess acid in the stomach and support the removal of troublesome symptoms hyperacidity and withdrawal of gastric contents into the esophagus.

Composition:
1 tablet. It contains 400 mg of magnesium hydroxide and 400 mg of aluminum hydroxide. 100 ml of suspension contains 4 g of magnesium hydroxide and 3.5 g of aluminum hydroxide (1 sachet comprises a 15 mL suspension.)

Operation: Maalox a combined preparation comprising aluminum hydroxide and magnesium local action of the neutralizing excess stomach acid. Osłaniająco acts on the mucous membrane of esophagus, stomach and duodenum by increasing mucus layer, the increase in bicarbonate secretion, and increased prostaglandin synthesis has cytoprotective effect on gastric mucosa. Slightly astringent and anti-inflammatory. It works locally, practically not absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract. Its action is fast and long lasting.

Indications: Symptomatic treatment of acid related disorders from the upper gastrointestinal tract: gastritis, regurgitation reverse gastric contents into the esophagus in the course of hiatal hernia, dyspepsia (heartburn) because of hyperacidity. An adjunct in the treatment of duodenal ulcer, gastric ulcer. Precautions:Carefully used in patients with renal impairment or those undergoing hemodialysis and in children under 6 years of age, especially dehydrated or renal failure. The tablets contain sucrose - used with caution in patients with diabetes. Pregnancy and lactation: Can be used during pregnancy and breast-feeding in recommended doses and as indicated. Should not be used long-term.

Undesirable effects: Possible constipation, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, light-colored stools. After prolonged use of the inadequate supply of phosphate symptoms of hypophosphatemia and renal failure (due to deposition of ammonium phosphate and magnesium), and in patients on dialysis can cause or worsen osteomalacia, as well as increase the risk of encephalopathy.

Dosage: Oral: 1 tablespoon (10 ml) or sachet or 1-2 tablets. 90 min. after a meal or during a pain. The tablets should be sucked or chewed. The maximum dose - 140 ml of the suspension per day.
