    • Depending on the individual sensitivity and the dose taken, the following side effects are very common (may affect more than 1 in 10 people) - especially at the beginning of treatment: sleepiness, drowsiness, dizziness and muscle weakness. These side effects can also lead to impairments the following day.
    • Frequently (may affect up to 1 in 10 people treated), so-called "anticholinergic" side effects such as dry mouth, increased heart rate (tachycardia), feeling of a stuffy nose, blurred vision, increased intraocular pressure and urinary disorders can occur. Gastrointestinal complaints ( (e.g. nausea, pain in the stomach, vomiting, constipation or diarrhoea) and mood swings have been observed. There is also the possibility of the occurrence of so-called "paradoxical reactions" such as restlessness, agitation, insomnia, anxiety or tremors, especially in children.

interactions

  • Taking with other medicines:
    • Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking/using or have recently taken/used other medicines, even if they are non-prescription medicines.
    • if this preparation is used at the same time as other centrally depressant drugs (drugs that affect the psyche, sleeping pills, tranquilizers, painkillers and anesthetics), the effect may be mutually enhanced.
    • The "anticholinergic" effect of the drug may be increased in an unpredictable manner by the simultaneous administration of other substances with "anticholinergic" effects (e.g. atropine, biperiden or certain antidepressants [tricyclic antidepressants]).
    • If the preparation is administered at the same time as so-called monoamine oxidase inhibitors (medicines that are also used to treat depression), life-threatening intestinal paralysis, urinary retention or an increase in intraocular pressure may develop. It can also lead to a drop in blood pressure and an increased functional impairment of the central nervous system and breathing. Therefore, the preparation must not be taken at the same time as monoamine oxidase inhibitors.
    • Concomitant use with drugs
      • which also prolong the so-called QT interval in the ECG, e.g. medicines for cardiac arrhythmias (class IA or III antiarrhythmics), with certain antibiotics (e.g. erythromycin), cisapride, antimalarial medicines, medicines for allergies or gastric/intestinal ulcers ( antihstamines) or agents for the treatment of specific mental illnesses (neuroleptics), or
      • which can lead to potassium deficiency (e.g. certain diuretics)
    • is to be avoided.
    • The doctor should be informed about the use of this medicine before performing allergy tests, since false negative test results are possible.
    • It should also be noted that the preparation may cover up any hearing damage that may occur during treatment with certain antibiotics (aminoglycosides).
  • Consumed with alcohol
    • Alcohol should not be drunk during treatment with this medicine, as alcohol can change and increase the effect of these tablets in an unpredictable way. It also further impairs the ability to drive and use machines.
