Sodium Potassium Calcium chloride, LAVANID 1 wound irrigation solution
- Dosage form:
- Rinse solution
Lavanid 1 and Lavanid 2
Description:
Lavanid 1 and Lavanid 2 are sterile, isotonic wound irrigation solutions based on Ringer's solution with 0.02% and 0.04% polyhexanide for preservation, respectively. Polyhexanide prevents the growth of microorganisms in wound dressings and in the solution.
Composition:
Ringer's solution (isotonic electrolyte solution consisting of sodium chloride, potassium chloride, calcium chloride dihydrate, and water for injections), macrogol, polyhexanide 0.02% (Lavanid 1) and polyhexanide 0.04% (Lavanid 2).
Indications:
- Solution for local wound irrigation and cleaning.
- for moistening wipes, tampons and dressings.
Contraindications:
Lavanid must not be used:
- in the entire area of the CNS (including the meninges).
- in the area of cartilage and joints.
- in the middle or inner ear.
- intraperitoneally.
- in case of known hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients.
- during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Precautions for use and warnings:
- Use only clear solutions!
- Do not mix with additives.
- Do not resterilize! Critical changes in usability may occur.
- The plug closure allows for aseptic withdrawal of the rinsing solution, e.g., using a spike. Alternatively, the screw cap can be removed to pour out the solution.
Interactions with other agents:
Due to incompatibility issues with the ingredient polyhexanide, Lavanid must not be used in combination with anionic substances (e.g. anionic surfactants or anionic gelling agents). Preoperative, superficial skin disinfection with PVP-iodine preparations followed by intraoperative irrigation with Lavanid is possible. Direct contact of PVP-iodine preparations with Lavanid irrigation in the same wound area should be avoided.
Dosage instructions, type and duration of administration:
For wound irrigation during surgical procedures as well as for diagnostic and therapeutic measures that require irrigation or moisturizing.
Instructions and information on shelf life:
The expiry date is stated on the label. Do not use after the expiry date! Shelf life after opening: 2 months.
Disposal instructions:
Disposal of unused products or waste material must be in accordance with specific national regulations.
