Psyllium husk, a soluble fiber supplement, offers several health benefits, including aiding digestion, managing blood sugar, and lowering cholesterol. It can help with constipation and diarrhea, improve heart health, and promote weight management. Psyllium acts as a prebiotic, supporting gut health.
Digestive Health:
Relieves Constipation:
Psyllium absorbs water in the intestines, increasing stool bulk and softening it, making it easier to pass.
Treats Diarrhea:
It can also help with diarrhea by adding bulk to the stool and slowing down bowel movements.
IBS Management:
Psyllium can help regulate bowel movements and reduce symptoms in both constipation-predominant and diarrhea-predominant Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS).
Prebiotic Effects:
It supports the growth of beneficial gut bacteria.
Cardiovascular Health:
Lowers Cholesterol: Studies have shown psyllium can reduce LDL cholesterol levels, potentially lowering the risk of heart disease.
Blood Pressure: Some research suggests psyllium may help lower blood pressure.
Blood Sugar Management:
Slows Glucose Absorption: Psyllium can help slow the absorption of glucose into the bloodstream, which can be beneficial for managing blood sugar levels in individuals with diabetes or prediabetes.
Weight Management:
Increases Satiety:
Psyllium can create a feeling of fullness, which may help with weight loss efforts.
Supports Weight Loss:
It can also indirectly support weight loss by helping with blood sugar and cholesterol control.
Other Benefits:
Metabolizes Stool: Psyllium husks can facilitate the removal of waste from the colon.
Supports Overall Gut Health: By promoting regular bowel movements and acting as a prebiotic, psyllium contributes to a healthy digestive system.
Psyllium husks in combination with Hildegard von Bingen's favorite medicinal plant, Betram root, are...
- full of good fiber and swelling agents that have a positive effect on intestinal function.
- particularly well tolerated, even for sensitive people.
-
Natural products in raw food quality, also suitable for people with gluten intolerance.
The use of psyllium is a traditional practice, especially in Western Europe. Psyllium husks are extracted from the fruits of the plantain, whose Latin name is psyllium, meaning flea. The name is apt, as the dark, shiny seeds inevitably evoke images of the annoying creature.
Together with Hildegard's favorite plant, bertram, it creates an excellent synergistic effect that should be used for natural intestinal care.
Psyllium husks are characterized by their enormous swelling capacity and the high fiber content of their seeds. When placed in liquid, the seeds develop a gentle mucilage and swell up to 30 times their volume. Ground psyllium husks are preferable to pure psyllium husks, as the fiber-rich, swelling properties are concentrated in the outer husks.
Type psyllium husks ground with 1% bertram root.
Recommended intake
: Drink or stir in ½ - 1 teaspoon (4 tsp = 10 g) with plenty of liquid (at least 250 ml).
Consumption: It's best to consume 1/2 to 1 teaspoon of ground psyllium husks with psyllium root first thing in the morning, accompanied by plenty of water. A pleasant bonus: No need to let it soak!
