SODIUM CITRATE solution 3.13% Eifelfango
Sodium citrate solution 3.13% Eifelfango
Sterile solution for diagnostic purposes
Composition:
1 ml of sodium citrate solution 3.13% Eifelfango contains: 31.3 mg sodium citrate 2-hydrate (Ph. Eur., equivalent to 27.9 mg anhydrous sodium citrate), in water for injections (Ph. Eur.). The solution is sterile and contains no preservatives. The pH is between 6.0 and 8.0.
Indications:
For determining the erythrocyte sedimentation rate or for reversing blood coagulation in vitro for other diagnostic purposes.
Use for the erythrocyte sedimentation rate:
To determine the erythrocyte sedimentation rate, 0.4 ml of the solution is made up to 2.0 ml with blood, mixed thoroughly, and drawn into the erythrocyte sedimentation tubes.
Use for other diagnostic purposes:
If sodium citrate solution 3.13% Eifelfango is used to prevent blood clotting in conjunction with another in vitro diagnostic device (IVD) or medical device (MD), the instructions for use for that product must be observed. In particular, the manufacturer must state that sodium citrate solution may be used in conjunction with the respective IVD or MD.
Mechanism of action:
Sodium citrate inhibits blood clotting by complexing the calcium ions in the blood. Calcium ions are essential for blood clotting; their removal can therefore prevent blood clotting.
