What do we need to know about cough?
Cough is a natural protective reflex mechanism by which the body seeks to expel secretions from its airways or a foreign body. The respiratory tract - throat, pharynx, trachea, bronchi, lungs, are the gateway for many pathogens. Therefore, it is often the airways that are most affected by infectious agents. Cough occurs when irritation of specific receptors in the airways. Irritated receptors send nerve impulses to the brain, which responds by sending a cough signal as it tries to expel the irritating component from the body.
When a person's body is healthy, coughing successfully clears the airways. In inflammation of the airways caused by flu, colds and other viral or bacterial respiratory infections, the cough reflex is not enough to expel the accumulated secretions. The cough may be moist or dry:
A wet cough produces a secretion that traps pathogens that enter the airways. Through the movements of the cilia of the airway epithelium, this secretion moves upwards and is expelled from the airways by coughing. Often, however, this secretion is thick and tough, making it difficult to move and cough. This leads to the accumulation of secretions in the airways, makes it difficult to breathe and worsens the infection. To stop the infection and cough, the body must get rid of the accumulated secretion. The natural process of removing sputum can be aided by an agent that supports the function of the epithelium and the discharge of secretions from the airways.
Dry cough is not associated with increased secretion and is most often accompanied by irritation of the receptors in the throat and pharynx, causing a painful cough. As the infection worsens, the dry cough may turn into a wet one. A dry cough can also be quite painful, as the constant unproductive urge to cough irritates and "scratches" the throat, tensing the chest muscles and straining the airways.
How do the ingredients in ATUSIN work?
PWEtm-MD is an aqueous extract of propolis, standardized for organic aromatic acids - phenethyl ester of caffeic acid, ferulic acid, cinnamic acid and others. It is obtained by a unique GREEN Extraction method from a specially created three-component blend containing brown, green and red Brazilian propolis. This extraction method provides high levels of pure aromatic organic acids from bee propolis and eliminates almost all impurities and beeswax. Only water is used. No chemical solvents.
The aqueous extract of propolis differs from alcohol with its high concentrations of organic aromatic acids, which are the main biologically active substances that have a beneficial effect on the health of the mucosa and respiratory tract - lungs, bronchi, trachea, pharynx, throat, maintaining them. in their natural physiological form, healthy and clean.
The standardized extract of Plantago lanceolata L. is obtained from the plant narrow-leaved plantain, which contains several main types of biologically active substances: iridoid glycosides, flavonoids, phenolic acids and others. The plant is included in the European Pharmacopoeia. It is the subject of many years of research proving its beneficial properties on the health and functions of the respiratory tract and the epithelium covering them.
Honey, glycerol and sugar are classic remedies that, after oral administration, cover and moisturize the respiratory mucosa. In this way they have a beneficial effect on the mucous membrane of the respiratory tract, maintain and support the feeling of comfort in the throat and pharynx.
