Lactoferrin is an iron-carrying glycoprotein that belongs to the group of transferrins. Responsible for the immune protection of the mucous membranes of the respiratory, digestive and genitourinary systems, and is contained in various body fluids and secretions (tears, bronchial secretions, saliva, bile, pancreatic juice, intestinal secretions, sexual secretions). The main functions of lactoferrin are the following:

Antibacterial action: lactoferrin acts bacteriostatically by binding free iron and vitamins. B12 and makes them inaccessible to bacteria, which stops their growth, as well as bactericidal (destroys the cell walls of many microbes and fungi).
