What is folic acid and where can I find it?
Folic acid is a vitamin that our body cannot produce itself. It must therefore be ingested in sufficient quantities through food. It plays an important role in the development of the unborn child, especially during pregnancy. Folic acid sources of the vegetarian and vegan diet are z. B. Asparagus, broccoli, nuts and whole grain products.
Unfortunately, folic acid is often only found in small amounts in our foods. One food alone is hardly a sufficient amount of this vitamin. To get the 400 micrograms of folic acid you need a day, you would have to eat more than 60 slices of whole grain bread a day.
The vitamin folic acid is also very sensitive to heat. Therefore, z. B. Vegetables that contain folic acid should be prepared as gently as possible.
How Much Folic Acid Do We Need?
The German Nutrition Society (DGE) recommends a daily amount of 0.4 milligrams (400 micrograms) of folic acid.
