Resveratrol - or the French paradox

Resveratrol is a phytoalexin with antioxidant properties. It was first detected in Japanese knotweed and a few years later also in grapes. Resveratrol is found in higher amounts in the skin of red grapes in particular - and this is believed to be one of the reasons for the comparatively robust health of the French population, which suffers less from cardiovascular diseases than other peoples.
