VITAMIN B12 Injektopas® 1000 µg is used in the event of a vitamin B12 deficiency that cannot be remedied in terms of nutrition.

- The preparation is a vitamin B 12 preparation. Cyanocobalamin belongs to the group of substances that are collectively referred to as "vitamin B 12 ".

Field of use:
- Vitamin B 12 deficiency that cannot be remedied nutritionally.

Vitamin B 12 deficiency can manifest itself in the following clinical pictures:
- Hyperchromic macrocytic megaloblastic anemia (perniciosa, Biermer anemia, Addison's anemia; these are disorders of the maturation of red blood cells)
- Funicular spinal disease [damage to the spinal cord]

A vitamin B 12 deficiency confirmed by laboratory diagnosis can occur in:
- Years of malnutrition and malnutrition (e.g. through strict vegetarian diet).

Malabsorption (insufficient absorption of vitamin B 12 in the intestine) through,
- Insufficient production of intrinsic factor (a protein that is formed in the gastric mucosa and is required for the absorption of vitamin B 12 ),
- Diseases in the terminal segment of the ileum (part of the small intestine), e.g. B. Sprue,
- Fish tapeworm infestation or
- Blind-loop syndrome (change in the course of the bowel after gastric surgery).
- Congenital vitamin B 12 transport disorders.

- Always use the medicine exactly as directed. Please ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

Unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor, the usual dose is:
- At the start of treatment, 1 ml (1 ampoule) is administered once or twice a week for the first two weeks after diagnosis, corresponding to 1000-2000 µg of cyanocobalamin per week.
- If there is evidence of a vitamin B 12 uptake disorder in the intestine, 100 µg cyanocobalamin is then administered once a month.

Duration of application:
- The drug is intended for prolonged use.

When a larger amount has been used
- Poisoning or overdose symptoms are not known.

If the application is forgotten
- A double dose should not be used to make up for a forgotten dose.

If you cancel the application
- If the treatment is interrupted, you endanger the success of the treatment! If you experience unpleasant side effects, please talk to your doctor about further treatment.

- The medicine is usually given intramuscularly (injected into a muscle). It can also be given slowly intravenously or subcutaneously (injected into a vein or under the skin).

- Like all medicines, the preparation can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.

When evaluating side effects, the following frequencies are used as a basis:
- Very common: more than 1 in 10 people
- Common: less than 1 in 10, but more than 1 in 100 patients
- Uncommon: less than 1 in 100, but more than 1 in 1000 patients
- Rare: less than 1 in 1,000 but more than 1 in 10,000 patients
- Very rare: less than 1 in 10,000 patients treated, or unknown

Possible side effects:
- Skin symptoms (acne as well as eczematous and urticarial drug reactions) and hypersensitivity symptoms (anaphylactic or anaphylactoid reactions) have been observed in very rare cases.
- Please inform your doctor or pharmacist if you get seriously affected by any of the side effects listed, or if you notice side effects that are not listed.
Interactions

When using the preparation with other drugs
- Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking / using or have recently taken / used any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription.
- No interactions are known to date.
- Due to the instability of vitamin B 12 , the addition of other drugs can lead to a loss of effectiveness of the vitamin.
Contraindications

The drug must not be used
- if you are hypersensitive (allergic) to cyanocobalamin or any of the other ingredients of the preparation.

- Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before using any medicine.

The recommended daily vitamin B 12 intake during pregnancy and breastfeeding is 4 µg. Experience to date has shown that higher amounts used have no adverse effects on the unborn child. Vitamin B 12 is excreted in breast milk.
