The "National Consumption Study II" 1shows that overall 91% of women and 82% of men do not reach the recommended daily intake of vitamin D. For some time, various nutritionists have recognized the importance of getting enough vitamins D3 and K2 to maintain healthy bones.
The following relationships exist in terms of nutritional physiology: Vitamin D contributes to a normal calcium level in the blood, which means that the body has enough calcium available for incorporation into the bones. Vitamin D also contributes to the maintenance of normal bones. Normal bones are characterized by normal growth and bone density. The bone protein "osteocalcin" plays an important role here. With normal bone function, vitamin D supports the formation of osteocalcin. Vitamin K also contributes to the maintenance of normal bones by promoting the activation of osteocalcin in normal bone function.
Vitamin D and vitamin K are fat-soluble vitamins, ie they need fat or oil for optimal absorption in the body cells. In order to be able to guarantee the best possible bioavailability, the vitamin D3 + K2 drops from R(h)ein Nutrition are based on oil (a high-quality combination of MCT oil (coconut) and olive oil). The K2 form used, menaquinone-7 (MK-7), has an effective all-trans content of 99% and is considered the most bioactive form of all vitamin K compounds. It can be absorbed very well by the body and also remains active for longer.

What is vitamin D3?
Vitamin D3 is involved in numerous metabolic processes in the body. An important task is the absorption of calcium from the intestine. This makes it available for installation in the bones and thus ensures their stability. Vitamin D is important for healthy bones and teeth, among other things.
Vitamin D is the only vitamin that the body can basically produce itself by absorbing it through the skin with the help of sunlight. That is why it is also often referred to as the “sun vitamin”. A large part of our vitamin D requirement can be covered by absorption through the skin (UVB radiation), but there are factors that can negatively influence the supply of vitamin D or even cause a vitamin D deficiency. So play e.g. B. season and time of day and weather play a decisive role. In our latitudes, the solar radiation from October to May is usually not sufficient to be able to produce enough vitamin D in the skin. In the sunny months, we protect our skin from the sun with sunscreen. This is important for our skin and protects it, however, this inhibits the absorption of vitamin D even in the sunny months. Many people are also spending less and less time outdoors (e.g. due to work, everyday life, age or changed leisure activities) or often use day creams with a sun protection factor. There may also be an increased need in certain life situations, e.g. B. with stress, athletes, in growth, during menopause or even with absorption disorders in the gastrointestinal tract. In the case of vegetarians and vegans, malnutrition and taking certain medications (e.g. antibiotics, cortisone, blood thinners) as well as disorders of the liver/kidney metabolism, alcohol dependence and chronically ill people, the supply of vitamin D is also prevented. Vitamin D deficiency symptoms can include tiredness, exhaustion, listlessness and susceptibility to infections. A vitamin D level test can be performed by your doctor.

What is vitamin K2?
Vitamin K (just like vitamin D and other vitamins) plays a relevant role in our health. Vitamin K2 controls the absorption of calcium in the bones and teeth and transports the calcium there in order to incorporate it there. Normally functioning blood clotting is particularly important for maintaining blood flow.

Why combine vitamin D3 and K2?
From the age of about 40 years, the continuous loss of bone mass begins (about 0.3-0.5% per year). In women going through the menopause, this usually increases significantly. Vitamin D3 and vitamin K2 work best together to strengthen bones. Vitamin D3 regulates the absorption of calcium from the intestine, while vitamin K2 is responsible for ensuring that the calcium can ultimately be transported to its place of action.
