APOrtha® R-(+)-Alpha Lipoic Acid Capsules
Alpha-lipoic acid (1,2-dithiolane-3-valeric acid) is a sulfur-containing fatty acid that occurs naturally in the human body. Alpha-lipoic acid is both water- and fat-soluble and is also produced by the body itself. Studies have shown that alpha-lipoic acid is excellently absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract and rapidly distributed throughout the body.
Alpha-lipoic acid as a dietary supplement containing the body's own pure R-alpha-lipoic acid is therefore preferable to a dietary supplement containing a 1:1 mixture of natural and synthetic alpha-lipoic acid.
Alpha-lipoic acid is very unstable and temperature-sensitive, so the stable acid form, sodium salt, is best suited for dietary supplements.
