Therapeutic actions:
Panangin is a source of potassium and magnesium ions, medication which affect metabolic processes.
Potassium and magnesium are intracellular cations which play an important role in the operation of many enzymes, interaction of macromolecule and intracellular enzymes, mechanism of muscular contractility.
Intracellular and extracellular correlation of potassium ions, magnesium, calcium, sodium affect myocardium contractility. Low level of potassium and magnesium in intracellular medium may exert pro-arrhythmogenic action, predispose to hypertension, atherosclerosis of coronary arteries, development of metabolic changes in myocardium.
One of the most important physiological function of potassium is to maintain membranous potential of neurons, myocytes. Disbalance of intracellular and extracellular amount of potassium leads to decrease of myocardial contractility, arrhythmias, tachycdia and increase toxicity of cardiac glycosides.
Magnesium is a cofactor of more than 300 enzymatic reactions of energetic metabolism and protein and nucleic acid synthesis. Magnesium decreases heart rate, decreases the demand of myocardium in oxygen.
The combination of potassium and magnesium in one medication is related to the fact that deficiency of potassium in the organism is accompanied by the deficiency of magnesium and requires simultaneous correction of both ions.
