- Ointment Altabactin contains two antibiotics - bacitracin and neomycin, which have antibacterial activity. Ointment is recommended for topical treatment of cutaneous lesions caused by various bacteria.
Bacitracin and neomycin, Altabactin ointment Composition:
1g of ointment contains 250 IU of bacitracin (Bacitracinum) in the form of zinc bacitracin and 5mg of neomycin (Neomycinum) in the form of neomycin sulphate and auxiliary substances with known effect: lanolin, liquid paraffin.
Bacitracin and neomycin, Altabactin ointment Action:
Ointment Altabactin contains up to two active substances from the group of antibiotics - bacitracin and neomycin. They act antibacterially and complement each other because they have different mechanisms of action. Neomycin is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that blocks the synthesis of bacterial proteins. Bacitracin is in turn a polypeptide antibiotic that damages bacterial cell walls. The combination of both antibiotic substances makes the ointment has a wide spectrum of activity and significantly reduces the likelihood of resistant strains. Importantly, both bacitracin and neomycin are not absorbed from the skin surface into the bloodstream, but neomycin used for prolonged or damaged skin may produce systemic effects.

Altabactin is intended for topical treatment of bacterial infections in small areas of the skin.
