Propolis is a resinous natural product that is made by bees and is also known by the names putty resin, bee resin, bee glue, bee putty resin, or putty wax.

In the fall, the bees start collecting resin from the buds and branches of the trees to use to disinfect and seal their burrow. It helps them inhibit and even kill the development of bacteria, fungi and other unwanted microorganisms.

The tree resin enriched with the glandular juices of the bees is valued by many people because it is rich in polyphenols. These include primarily flavonoids such as galangin and procyanidins. It also contains vitamins, trace elements such as zinc, iron and copper and essential oils.
