Chromium(III) contributes to maintaining a normal blood sugar level*
With bitter melon, turmeric, Ceylon cinnamon, ginger and chromium(III)
One of our body's most important suppliers of energy is glucose. Brain, muscle and fat cells use it to cover their energy needs. Glucose is obtained from food and is one of the carbohydrates. These are the fastest usable energy sources for the body. Carbohydrates are found in plant foods that either contain sugar or can be converted into sugar. During digestion, the sugar then enters the bloodstream.
The sugar in the blood has to be taken up by the cells. The hormone insulin, which is produced in the pancreas, is responsible for this. Insulin channels the glucose into the cells by docking onto certain receptors and giving the command to allow the glucose to enter the cells. If there is no insulin, the glucose remains in the blood and the blood sugar level rises. The cells are not supplied with energy.
Trivalent chromium is an important link between the insulin receptors in the cell walls and the insulin in the blood. In the case of a chromium(III) deficiency, the insulin content in the blood increases because the supply cannot find its way into the cells. A sufficient supply of chromium(III) can remedy this deficiency. Muscle and fat cells can then react better to the insulin supply.
Bitter melon comes from the gourd family, native to China and India. Today it is also grown in Europe, North and South America and Africa. The cucumber-like, orange-yellow, ripe fruits are used.
Like ginger, turmeric (Indian turmeric) is a reed-like plant with a bulbous rootstock. Most curry mixes contain turmeric.
The ginger rhizome has always played an important role in human nutrition.
Cinnamon bark from Ceylon is a popular spice. The cinnamon tree, which can be up to 10 meters high, came to Europe from Southeast Asia around the 15th century. As a spice, cinnamon can make food more digestible.
