Bromhexine

Bromhexine is available in two different dosages and two dosage forms:

• Bromhexine 8 mg/ml drops
• Bromhexine 12 mg/ml drops
• Bromhexine 12 mg tablets

All three medicines contain the active ingredient bromhexine hydrochloride. The active ingredient was developed from a herbal ingredient of Indian lungwort.

Our bromhexine products are pharmacy-only medicines that are used to treat respiratory diseases with thick mucus. Our products are expectorants, which means that the active ingredient bromhexine has a mucus-liquefying effect in the bronchial tract. In addition, the bronchi are supported in removing the cough secretions. Fixed coughs can be solved in this way.

Bromhexine is used for acute and chronic diseases of the bronchi and lungs that are associated with a disorder of mucus formation and transport:

• Bromhexine activates the glands in the bronchi to produce thinner cough secretions
• By liquefying the cough secretions and supporting the activity of the Cilia in the airways promote the removal of cough secretions and make it easier to cough up mucus.
• The inflamed mucous membrane in the bronchi can calm down.

If the symptoms do not improve after four to five days or even worsen, a doctor should be consulted.

Danger!
When bromhexine and antitussives, i.e. cough suppressants, are used in combination, a dangerous build-up of secretions can occur in the bronchi due to the limited cough reflex caused by the cough suppressants. A combination therapy of cough relievers and cough suppressants should only be carried out after consulting a doctor.

The Bromhexin drops 12 mg/ml taste of menthol, peppermint, fennel and anise.
