Diaphragm Gel, CONTRAGEL green
Pack size:60g Dosage form:gel
Contragel ® green - Diaphragm Gel
For use with diaphragms or cervical caps
Contragel green uses methylcellulose to form a mechanical barrier in front of the cervix and reduces the pH value. The sperm are immobilized. The cervix is closed (glued). A tried and tested diaphragm gel that has been manufactured and used in this composition since 1972.
This lactic acid-based gel is suitable for diaphragms and cervical caps made of latex and silicone.
Composition:
Water, lactic acid, sodium lactate, methylcellulose, sorbic acid
Application:
The safe use of a diaphragm (vaginal pessary) or a cervical cap (FemCap) is always done with a gel (e.g. Contragel green) that is placed into the membrane. This gel is a complementary security to these barrier contraceptives. Using a diaphragm or cervical cap without gel is less safe. The gel is added to the membrane/cap before inserting the diaphragm. Now the diaphragm or cervical cap is inserted so that the cervix is covered with the gel. It is therefore additionally “closed”. The gel is primarily a physical barrier. The chemical effect on the sperm is considered to be less. Therefore, the gel does not have to contain the active ingredient nonoxynol-9, but works mechanically via the gelling agent. This prevents sperm that have gotten behind the membrane/cap from entering the cervix.
Contragel green is compatible with condoms.
