DHA (Docosahexaenoic acid) is the most valuable Omega-3 fatty acid. The highest concentrations of DHA are found in the brain and in the eye. It is a structural component of the photoreceptor membranes of the retina. The presence of DHA in cell membranes, on the one hand, is a prerequisite for normal receptor function and transmission of visual impulses, and on the other hand, protects cells from damage. DHA is involved in the transmission of impulses between neurons (via neurotransmitters) and protects cells from apoptosis (programmed cell death).
EPA (Eicosapentaenoic acid) is normally found in fish oil along with DHA and can be metabolized to DHA in the liver.
Lutein and Zeaxanthin are pigments normally present in the macula (the "yellow spot"), the most sensitive part of the retina. The "yellow spot" is located in the middle of the back of the retina and is responsible for central vision, e.g. for reading as well as for color vision. These pigments act as a protective filter for dangerous UV radiation and this allows the eye to maintain its full capacity. Lutein and zeaxanthin also accumulate in the lens of the eye, protecting its structures from the harmful effects of free radicals, especially after the age of 40.

Macular degeneration (MD)

Age-related macular degeneration is one of the most common eye diseases, which can lead to irreversible vision loss. Over time, damage to the macula lutea ("yellow spot") occurs - the site of the sharpest vision and there is a violation of central vision. As a result, reading, clear focusing on objects, face recognition are difficult. Blurring and blurring of vision occurs, which greatly complicates and worsens the quality of life.
The disease is most often associated with age-related changes in the macula. Macular degeneration is a leading cause of blindness in people over 55 years of age. When MD is diagnosed, it is very important to protect the eyes from harmful influences and also to supply them with valuable protective substances as best as possible.

Vitamin A is key to vision in limited light. He, along with vitamin B 2involved in maintaining normal vision. One of the serious clinical manifestations of hypovitaminosis A may be "chicken blindness" - severely reduced vision in a gloomy environment. Zinc, selenium, copper and vitamins C and E protect the cellular structures of the retina and lens from free radicals. Zinc regulates the activity of more than 200 enzymes that are involved in almost all important cellular processes. Vitamins C and E complement each other in their positive effect on cellular defense. Adequate intake of vitamin C allows vitamin E to show its antioxidant properties more fully. The needs for vitamins C and E increase with stress, intense sports, harmful environmental factors such as cigarette smoke, polluted air and more. Selenium is a powerful antioxidant and is involved in protecting cells against the damaging effects of free radicals.

Doppelhertz® Active Eye Vitamins + Omega-3 contains vital ingredients needed to nourish and protect the main components of the eye: retinal photoreceptors, ocular lens, optic nerve, capillaries.
