Indications
Disorders of exocrine pancreatic function accompanied by dyspepsia in the following conditions:
Chronic pancreatitis
Conditions after resection of the pancreas or part of it
Conditions after gastric resection
Cystic fibrosis
Narrowing of the pancreatic duct caused by cancer, e.g. of the pancreas or bile ducts
Action
An extract of exocrine pancreatic enzymes from porcine pancreas, which improves digestion. Each capsule contains minitablets coated with a gastric juice-resistant coating, which causes the contents of the minitablets to be released only in the neutral or slightly alkaline environment of the small intestine. This protects the enzymes contained within them from the destructive effects of gastric juice. The minitablets pass into the duodenum with food. The pancreatin contained in the preparation is not absorbed; it is primarily broken down or denatured by digestive juices or bacteria and is excreted in the feces.
Dosage
The dosage of Pangrol 10000 is determined individually by the physician, depending on the degree of pancreatic insufficiency of the patient. It is most often recommended to take 2-4 capsules of the drug with a meal.
Depending on the type of meal and the severity of the digestive disorder, the required dose may be significantly higher. The dose should not exceed 10,000 Ph.Eur. IU/kg body weight of lipase per day and 6,000 Ph.Eur. IU/kg body weight per meal.
The capsules should be swallowed whole during a meal with plenty of water.
Patients who are unable to swallow the capsule may pour its contents into a glass with a small amount of liquid and take it immediately after mixing without crushing or chewing, followed by a glass of water.
Composition
1 capsule 10,000 contains pancreatin from porcine pancreases with the following enzyme activity: 10,000 Ph. Eur. units of lipase; 9,000 Ph. Eur. units of amylase; 500 Ph. Eur. units of protease.
