What are ear drops for divers used for?
Diving in pools, the sea and lakes in particular can create ideal conditions for irritation and inflammation in the external ear canal. Special ear drops for divers can be used as prevention.
Applying divers ear drops
After the dive, rinse your ears with lukewarm water. You should use drinking water for this, as tap water in some countries can contain germs.
If the bottle is cold, first warm it in your hand for a few minutes, as cold ear drops can cause dizziness.
Then place two to four drops in each ear . The best way to do this is to tilt your head to the side or lie on your side with your ear up. Remain in this position for one to two minutes and allow the diving drops to take effect. Then let the liquid drain out again.
What else you can do besides the divers ear drops
- Avoid strenuous cleaning with cotton swabs as earwax forms a natural protective layer. Instead of mechanical cleaning, rinsing with lukewarm (drinking) water is better.
- If it is windy, wear a headband or hat as wind protection, but not over wet ears. After rinsing, gently pat your ears dry and only then put on a windbreaker.
