Why do I need folic acid as soon as I plan to get pregnant?
From the moment you want to have children, it is important that you make sure that you take a sufficient amount of folic acid / folate every day. If the folate level is too low at the beginning of a pregnancy, this can be one of the risk factors for the development of neural tube defects during embryonic development. 1 In addition to a varied diet, women are recommended to take 400 μg of folic acid daily at least one month before conception and for up to three months afterwards.
What about iodine and the recommended amount of 150 μg?
According to information from several scientific associations, a daily iodine supplement of 150 μg is recommended for those who wish to have children. This is a safe amount for healthy women. If you have thyroid disease, please consult a doctor before taking Femibion® 0 BabyPlaning.

Was your pregnancy test positive? Congratulation! Now you can continue taking Femibion® 0 BabyPlanung until the pack is used up. Then the next phase starts and you can switch to Femibion® 1 early pregnancy. The changeover date is flexible, in principle ± 2 weeks applies. If you have any further questions, please contact your gynecologist.

1Femibion® products contain folate (folic acid and Metafolin®) as well as selected nutrients; Femibion® 2 + 3 also contain docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). The supplementary intake of folic acid increases the folate level in pregnant women. A low folate level in pregnant women is a risk factor for the development of neural tube defects in the growing fetus. For this, an additional 400 μg of folic acid should be taken daily for a period of at least one month before and up to three months after conception. A neural tube defect is caused by several risk factors. Changing a risk factor may or may not have a positive effect. Folate contributes to the growth of maternal tissue during pregnancy, including the development of the placenta. The mother's ingestion of DHA (polyunsaturated omega-3 fatty acid) contributes to the normal development of the brain and eyes in the fetus and in the breastfed infant. The positive effect of DHA occurs when, in addition to the recommended daily dose of omega-3 fatty acids for adults (ie 250 mg DHA and EPA), 200 mg DHA are taken daily.
