Gastrointestinal disorders can lead to folic acid and vitamin B12 not being properly absorbed. Even healthy adults often do not reach the recommended daily intake of folic acid. In order to specifically prevent or treat a lack of folic acid and vitamin B12, an intramuscular (im) administration makes sense. Folic acid and vitamin B12 enter the bloodstream directly and quickly.
