How does the active ingredient in the medication work?
The active ingredient prevents water and salts from being absorbed from the intestinal contents. At the same time, it promotes the flow of water and salts into the intestine. This increases the volume of the intestinal contents and softens them, leading to an urge to defecate and easier bowel movements.

- The coated tablets are best taken whole in the evening or in the morning on an empty stomach with plenty of liquid.
- Taking it in the evening leads to bowel movements after about 10 hours.
- Taking it on an empty stomach in the morning leads to bowel movements after approximately 6 hours.

The recommended dose is
- Children up to the age of 10 with chronic constipation should only be treated on the advice of a doctor.
- Bisacodyl should not be used in children under 2 years of age.

- 1 - 2 coated tablets (5 - 10 mg) daily before bedtime to achieve an immediate onset of action.

Duration of application
- This medication should only be used for short periods (up to one week at most) without medical advice. A doctor should be consulted in cases of chronic constipation.
- Please talk to your doctor if you feel that the effect is too strong or too weak.

If you have taken a larger amount than you should
- Overdosing can cause diarrhea and abdominal cramps with significant loss of fluids, potassium, and other minerals. If you experience severe symptoms, consult your doctor.
- Treatment depends on the predominant symptoms. If necessary, fluid and salt losses (especially potassium) must be replaced.

- It is generally known that laxatives (like this one) can lead to chronic diarrhea, abdominal pain, low potassium levels, excessive aldosterone secretion, and kidney stones when chronically overdosed. Kidney damage, metabolic elevation of blood base concentrations, and muscle weakness due to low potassium levels have also been reported in connection with chronic laxative abuse.
