What is the use of hydrogen peroxide solution?

Hydrogen peroxide is a mild antiseptic used on the skin to prevent infection of minor cuts, scrapes, and burns. It may also be used as a mouth rinse to help remove mucus or to relieve minor mouth irritation (such as due to canker/cold sores, gingivitis).

What does hydrogen peroxide do to skin?

The Agency for Toxic Substances & Disease Registry (ATSDR), for example, note that low concentrations of hydrogen peroxide can cause skin irritation and blistering. They recommend that if the chemical touches the skin, a person should wash the area thoroughly with soap and water.

What are the oral benefits of hydrogen peroxide?

Gargling with hydrogen peroxide may help treat minor mouth irritations, such as cuts or canker sores, because it is an antiseptic. When put on a cut, hydrogen peroxide bubbles or foams as it releases oxygen. The foaming helps clean the area, remove dead cells, and reduce bacteria.

Important Considerations:
Concentration:
Hydrogen peroxide is available in different concentrations. The typical household concentration is 3%, while higher concentrations are used in hair dyes, teeth whitening products, and industrial applications.
Safety:
It's crucial to use hydrogen peroxide safely, especially at higher concentrations. Never consume food-grade hydrogen peroxide, and always follow instructions for safe handling.
