What is the use of hydrogen peroxide solution?


Hydrogen peroxide is a mild antiseptic used on the skin to prevent infection of minor cuts, scrapes, and burns. It may also be used as a mouth rinse to help remove mucus or to relieve minor mouth irritation (such as due to canker/cold sores, gingivitis).

What does hydrogen peroxide do to skin?


The Agency for Toxic Substances & Disease Registry (ATSDR), for example, note that low concentrations of hydrogen peroxide can cause skin irritation and blistering. They recommend that if the chemical touches the skin, a person should wash the area thoroughly with soap and water.

What are the oral benefits of hydrogen peroxide?


Gargling with hydrogen peroxide may help treat minor mouth irritations, such as cuts or canker sores, because it is an antiseptic. When put on a cut, hydrogen peroxide bubbles or foams as it releases oxygen. The foaming helps clean the area, remove dead cells, and reduce bacteria.



Composition: Hydrogen peroxide solution 3% contains: Hydrogen peroxide solution 30% 100.0 g, phosphoric acid 10% 5.0 g, purified water 1,000.0 g.

Areas of use: For cleaning wounds; mouth disinfection for bad breath; for rinsing for bleeding gums and inflammation of the oral mucosa.

Contraindications: In the very rare, genetically caused catalase deficiency (acatalaseemia), the effect of hydrogen peroxide solution 3% is reduced.

Notes: Hydrogen peroxide solution 3% is stabilized with phosphoric acid 10% (AB.). Hydrogen peroxide solution 3% bleaches textiles. Do not store above 25 °C. Keep medicines out of the reach of children.
