In homeopathy, Hypericum perforatum is known as a remedy for unbearable, shooting or jabbing pain especially when neural damage is involved. Reduction of pain after application of H. perforatum has been observed in previous studies.
Hypericum Perforatum is a homeopathic dilution of Hypericum Perforatum that relieves nerve pain.
Hypericum perforatum, commonly known as St John's wort, has been used for centuries to treat nerve damage, sciatica and back pain.
The preparation of homeopathic drugs is based on potentiation. In this potentiation the primary substance is specially mixed with a carrier (typically 90% ethanol) in the ratio 1:10. Usually this potentiation is done repeatedly and the final drug is labeled, e.g., "D6" which means a 6 times decimal potentiation.
It may take 3 to 6 weeks to feel any effects from St. John's wort.
The most common are gastrointestinal symptoms, dizziness, confusion, fatigue and/or sedation, skin reactions, restlessness or anxiety, headache, dry mouth and allergic reactions. These may occur in 1–3% of patients taking H. perforatum. There have also been described rare adverse reactions that include phototoxicity.
St. John's Wort (Hypericum perforatum L.) flowers are commonly used in ethnomedical preparations with promising outcomes to treat inflammation both per os and by topical application.
