INFLAMMATION IN THE MOUTH
If the mucous membrane in the mouth is inflamed , only small areas can be affected, but also the entire oral cavity. The most common symptoms are pain when eating and bad breath, the mucous membrane is usually red and swollen, sometimes plaque is also visible. Causes can be reduced saliva production in old age and a weakened general condition. Other causes include infectious diseases, vitamin deficiencies, diabetes, circulatory disorders, hormone fluctuations, smoking and increased alcohol consumption. Poor oral hygiene, incorrect tooth alignment and poorly fitting dentures can also damage the mucous membrane.
THROAT INFLATION
A scratchy throat is usually the first sign of a sore throat. The throat feels rough, irritated and dry, and those affected often have to clear their throat or cough. The mucous membrane in the throat is reddened and inflamed, swallowing is painful. Often there is an inflammation of the throat as part of a cold caused by viruses. In addition, other cold symptoms such as fever, runny nose, hoarseness or cough can occur if the inflammation has also spread to the nose and sinuses, the larynx or the bronchi. If the sore throat is very severe and occurs relatively suddenly together with a high fever and a pronounced feeling of illness, real flu should be considered, especially in the cold season.
