Keratoconjunctivitis sicca, REMOGEN Omega eye drops

Keratoconjunctivitis sicca, REMOGEN ® OMEGA: Soothing, refreshing and moisturizing

Dry, irritated eyes are not uncommon, but rather a widespread disease (approx. 15-17% of the German, Great Britain population are affected). Dry eyes are usually a chronic disease that should be treated early to avoid consequential damage to the surface of the eye.

In technical terms, this is called "keratoconjunctivitis sicca". The most common cause of dry eyes is a disruption in the quality of the tear fluid: In this case, the composition of the tear film is disturbed and it does not adhere to the cornea long enough. It is not uncommon for this to be due to an inflammation of the surface of the eye or the tear duct. 1

As a result, symptoms such as itching, burning, a foreign body sensation, redness and pain occur. Tear substitutes such as REMOGEN ® OMEGA have proven effective in counteracting these symptoms, rebuilding the disrupted tear film and thus being able to effectively combat the inflammation of the eye . The micro-emulsion from REMOGEN ® OMEGA provides the eyes with important nutrients such as omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin E as well as moisture, which allows the surface of the eye to regenerate and is protected.

Omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin E – for vision and maintaining healthy eyes

Keratoconjunctivitis sicca, REMOGEN Omega eye drops

Omega-3 fatty acids cannot be formed by the human body or only to a very limited extent. Therefore, they are among the essential nutrients that the body must be supplied with, for example, through nutrition. The two most important representatives are eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). During pregnancy, the omega-3 fatty acid DHA accumulates in the retina, among other things, and thus plays an important role in the child's development of vision. Omega-3 fatty acids can also be detected in the tear film. In addition to omega-3 fatty acids, vitamin E also plays an important role as a radical scavenger. As a result, it contributes to the protection of cells from oxidative stress.

Omega-3 fatty acids provide important starting materials for anti-inflammatory substances in the immune system and contribute to a healthy and stable tear film. A meta-analysis of various studies was able to show that omega-3 fatty acids are an effective therapy option in the treatment of dry eyes. In addition to oral intake, eye drops with omega-3 fatty acids can also be a treatment option. 2

Keratoconjunctivitis sicca, REMOGEN Omega eye drops FREQUENTLY QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS

*What is the structure of the tear film?
Keratoconjunctivitis sicca, REMOGEN Omega eye drops

The tear film consists of three layers. An outer lipid layer, the aqueous middle layer and the inner mucin layer. The tear film adheres to the surface of the cornea with the mucin or mucus layer. The watery layer forms the middle layer and makes up most of the tear film. It consists not only of water, but also of nutrients, hyaluronic acid and oxygen to supply the surface of the eye. The outer lipid layer is produced by the so-called Meibomian glands on the edge of the eyelids and prevents the tear fluid from evaporating.

A defective lipid layer creates gaps in the tear film that allow moisture to evaporate from the aqueous layer.

What is Meibomian Gland Dysfunction?
The Meibomian glands are sebaceous glands located on the edge of the eyelids. If there is a meibomian gland dysfunction, these are blocked or inflamed. This disturbs the production of the lipid layer of the tear film, causing it to evaporate more quickly. This can lead to dry eyes. Watery eyes can be an indication of meibomian gland dysfunction.

What else can be done to help with dry eyes?
The human body consists of 60 percent water. Water is essential for the body and fulfills a variety of tasks. Therefore, in principle, but also in the case of dry eyes, you should drink enough.

Other tips against dry eyes are:
· Blinking consciously and regularly
· Ventilate the interior regularly and protect the eyes from draughts.

Regular check-ups with the ophthalmologist are also essential for the success of the therapy. In addition, dietary supplements can help maintain normal vision.

Despite a balanced diet, it can make sense to add omega-3 fatty acids to the body in the form of dietary supplements such as OMEGA-3 TRB ® .

How should REMOGEN ® OMEGA be stored?
In the pharmacy, REMOGEN ®OMEGA stored refrigerated. Once delivered to the patient, the shelf life is three months during which it can be stored at room temperature rather than in the refrigerator. Storage in the refrigerator is of course also possible and is preferred by some users because of the cooling effect.
