LORATADINE 10 Heumann

(active ingredient: loratadine)
for oral use for adults and children from 2 years of age (from 30 kg body weight). For the treatment of the symptoms of allergic rhinitis (e.g. hay fever) and chronic, idiopathic urticaria (hives of unknown cause).

LORATADINE 10 mg Heumann Indication / application

  • The drug belongs to the group of antihistamines and is used to treat the symptoms of certain allergic diseases that are associated with increased histamine release.
  • The preparation is used to treat the symptoms of allergic rhinitis (e.g. hay fever) and chronic, idiopathic urticaria (hives of unknown cause).

LORATADINE 10 mg Heumann dosage

  • Always take the medicine exactly as instructed.
  • Please ask your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
  • Unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor, the usual dose is:
    • Adults and children over 12 years:
      • 1 tablet once a day (equivalent to 10 mg loratadine).
    • Children from 2 to 12 years:
      • If you weigh more than 30 kg:
        • 1 tablet once a day (equivalent to 10 mg loratadine).
      • If you weigh 30 kg or less:
        • The 10 mg tablet is not suitable for children who weigh less than 30 kg.
    • The drug's effectiveness and safety in children under 2 years of age have not been established.
  • Patients with severe liver damage:
    • A starting dose of 1 tablet (equivalent to 10 mg loratadine) every other day is recommended for adults and children who weigh more than 30 kg.
  • No dose adjustment is required in the elderly or in patients with renal insufficiency.
  • Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect is too strong or too weak.

 

  • If you take more than you should
    • Drowsiness, fast heartbeat (tachycardia) and headache have been described with overdose of loratadine.
    • If you have taken too many tablets, please inform your doctor or pharmacist immediately.
    • In the event of an overdose, supportive treatment tailored to the symptoms must be initiated immediately and continued for as long as necessary. Activated charcoal dissolved in water can be administered. Gastric lavage can be considered. Loratadine is not removed by blood washing (hemodialysis) and it is not known whether loratadine is eliminated by peritoneal dialysis. After emergency treatment, the patient must remain under medical supervision.

 

  • If you forget to take a dose
    • Do not take a double dose to make up for a forgotten dose.
    • If you forget to take a tablet on time, take it as soon as possible. After that, proceed as recommended.

  • Like all medicines, this preparation can have side effects.
  • The list includes all known side effects under treatment with loratadine, including those under higher doses or long-term therapy.
  • When evaluating side effects, the following frequencies are used as a basis:
    • Very common: more than 1 in 10 people
    • Common: less than 1 in 10 but more than 1 in 100 patients
    • Uncommon: less than 1 in 100 but more than 1 in 1000 patients
    • Rare: less than 1 in 1000 but more than 1 in 10,000 patients
    • Very rare: affects less than 1 in 10,000 people, including isolated cases
  • Immune system:
    • Very rare: hypersensitivity reactions (anaphylaxis)
  • Nervous system:
    • Common: nervousness
    • Very rare: dizziness
  • Cardiovascula:
    • Very rare: accelerated heartbeat (tachycardia), palpitations or racing heart (palpitation)
  • Gastrointestinal tract:
    • Very rare: nausea, dry mouth, inflammation of the stomach lining (gastritis)
  • Liver and biliary tract:
    • Very rare: liver dysfunction
  • Skin and subcutaneous tissue:
    • Very rare: skin rash, hair loss (alopecia)
  • General disorders:
    • Common: headache, tiredness, drowsiness
    • Uncommon: insomnia, increased appetite
  • If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. This also applies to side effects that are not specified.

LORATADINE 10 mg Heumann Interactions

  • When taking with other medicines
    • Please inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking / using or have recently taken / used any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription.
    • The effects of alcohol will not be increased by taking the drug.
    • No significant interactions were described in the clinical studies carried out.

LORATADINE 10 mg Heumann Contraindications

  • The medicine must not be taken
    • if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to loratadine or any of the other ingredients

LORATADINE 10 mg Heumann pregnancy and breast feeding period

  • No teratogenic effects of loratadine were found in animal studies. The safety of using loratadine during pregnancy has not been established, therefore it is not recommended to use the drug during pregnancy.
  • Since loratadine passes into breast milk, it is not recommended to use it during breastfeeding.

  • Take special care when taking it
    • if you have severe liver problems.
    • in case you plan to have a skin test done. The use of the drug should be interrupted at least 48 hours before skin tests are carried out, as antihistamines such as this preparation can otherwise prevent or weaken positive reactions to the skin test.

  • Driving and using machines
    • Very rarely, some people may feel drowsy, which may affect their ability to drive or use machines.
