Origin and distribution

The Maitake mushroom belongs to the family of giant polypores, and is also known as the "rattle mushroom". This medicinal mushroom, which originates from Asia, also grows in Germany at the base of old oak trees, and more rarely on chestnuts, beeches or linden trees. The Maitake has been highly sought-after in Asia for several centuries. In some cases the mushroom was as valuable as silver. The locations where it was found are still kept very secret. Its valuable ingredients include various beta-glucans such as beta-D-glucan.

As a vegan dietary supplement

The Maitake is considered an aromatic edible mushroom thanks to its nutty flavor. The mushroom body is used to produce powders and extracts, each of which contains different nutrients. That is why Terra Mundo uses both Maitake powder and Maitake extract when producing the Maitake ORGANIC medicinal mushroom capsules.

Maitake is particularly popular for its polysaccharides (grifolan, grifolin) as well as its lectins and metal-bound proteins. Maitake is unique in its beta-D-glucan content. It also contains nucleotides and guanylic acid.

Maitake powder and maitake extract

Maitake powder: The mushroom powder is obtained from the entire fruiting body. The fresh fruiting bodies are dried and pulverized. This process is intended to preserve the natural composition of ingredients (vitamins, minerals, trace elements, amino acids, provitamins, enzymes and secondary plant substances) in their entirety and originality as best as possible.

Maitake extract: The mushroom extract is extracted from the powder using hot water extraction. It is primarily the mushroom-specific ingredients, the polysaccharides (especially beta glucans), that are present in concentrated form in the extract powder (up to 20 times higher than in mushroom powder!). In contrast to plants, whose cell walls are made of cellulose, the cell walls of mushrooms are made of chitin. However, the human organism cannot normally utilize this. Only through the hot water extraction used is it possible to dissolve and concentrate the polysaccharides / beta glucan embedded in the chitin structure. The ingredients are more readily available in the resulting aqueous extracts than, for example, in powder.

Recommended intake:
Take 1-2 Maitake ORGANIC medicinal mushroom capsules twice daily with plenty of liquid with meals, unchewed.
