The other ingredients are: water for injections, 0.05m sulfuric acid [for pH adjustment].
Application:
Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, the usual dose is:
For preeclampsia, eclampsia:
For anticonvulsant therapy, magnesium sulfate 4-6 g intravenously in diluted form using a perfusor or short infusion over 15-20 minutes. Maintenance dose 1-2 g/hour until 24-48 hours after birth.
In the event of premature birth and to inhibit contractions when other measures are not medically justifiable:
Intravenous infusion of 1-2 g of magnesium sulfate per hour. Prepare the infusion solution by mixing, for example, 2 ampoules of Mg 5-sulfate amp. 50% with 480 ml of 5% glucose solution.
The same dosage guidelines apply as adjunctive therapy to tocolysis with betamimetics. In this case, however, 0.9% sodium chloride solution should be used instead of glucose solution because of the hyperglycemic effect of the tocolytics.
For severe magnesium deficiency, magnesium deficiency in cardiac disorders: Intravenous infusion of 5 g of magnesium sulfate per day (prepare the infusion solution by mixing 1 ampoule of Mg 5-sulfate 50% with 990 ml of 5% glucose solution).
The duration of treatment depends on the serum magnesium level (normal values in serum 0.73 to 1.03 mmol/l).
There is no limit to the duration of use or this depends on the type of illness.
Do not use Mg 5 sulfate Amp. 50% undiluted.
Mg 5-sulfate Amp. 50% should be used for intravenous infusion after dilution. A 20% solution should be prepared for slow intravenous injection and a 0.5% or 2% solution for intravenous infusion. The best dilution solution is a 5% glucose or 0.9% sodium chloride solution.
