Nifuroxazide (Nifuroksazyd) Polfarmex indicated for use in adults and children over 7 years of age in the treatment of acute and chronic diarrhea caused by bacterial gastrointestinal infection. Nifuroxazide is an antibacterial drug.

Composition of Nifuroxazide Polfarmex:

The active substance is nifuroxazide (Nifuroxazidum). One tablet contains 200mg of nifuroxazide and other ingredients: potato starch, povidone K-25, magnesium stearate; coating: lactose monohydrate, hypromellose 6cP, titanium dioxide (E 171), macrogol 6000, yellow iron oxide (E 172).

Action of Nifuroxazide Polfarmex:

Nifuroxazide is a 5-nitrofuran derivative with antibacterial activity (each tablet contains 200mg of active substance). Nifuroxazide Polfarmex is used in acute and chronic bacterial diarrhea. The drug has a local effect in the lumen of the intestine in relation to such bacteria as e.g. some species of Gram-positive bacteria of the genus Staphylococcus and some species of Gram-negative bacteria of the family Enterobacteriaceae of the genera: Yersinia, Escherichia, Citrobacter, Enterobacter, Klebsiella, Salmonella. Importantly, the drug does not damage the bacterial flora that inhabit the gastrointestinal tract.

Application:
Nifuroxazide Polfarmex indicated for use in the treatment of acute and chronic diarrhea of ​​bacterial origin. The drug is for adults and children over 7 years of age.

Additional information:
The product should be stored out of reach of children at room temperature. It is recommended to protect against moisture and light. The drug contains lactose monohydrate (3.84mg in one tablet), therefore people with known intolerance to some sugars should discuss with the doctor the possibility of using the drug. The possibility of using the drug in women during pregnancy and breastfeeding should consult a doctor (it is not recommended to use during pregnancy). Alcohol consumption during treatment may cause severe and severe intolerance (so-called disulfiram-like reactions).

Contraindications:
Do not use in case of hypersensitivity to any component of the drug, 5-nitrofuran derivatives. Do not use on children under 7 years of age.


Side effects:
Some people may get side effects while using the medicine. If the following symptoms occur, contact a physician immediately: allergic reactions e.g. skin reactions; rash, hives, angioedema (manifested by swelling of the face, lips, tongue, shortness of breath); anaphylactic shock (manifested by confusion, pallor of the skin, accelerated breathing, weakness and fainting). Other side effects: rare - rash; pimples on the skin; not known - granulocytopenia; nodular itch due to contact allergy to nifuroxazide; stomach pain; nausea; worsening of diarrhea. A slight increase in abdominal pain, nausea and diarrhea does not require any special treatment or discontinuation of nifuroxazide.

Dosage of Nifuroxazide Polfarmex tablets:

Use as directed by your doctor or as directed on the leaflet. Use orally, swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Do not chew or crush the tablets. Adults: take 800 mg of nifuroxazide daily in 2-4 divided doses. Children over 7 years of age: take 600-800mg of nifuroxazide daily in 2-4 divided doses. Do not use for more than 3 days without consulting a doctor. In the absence of improvement or worsening of symptoms, consult a physician. Do not take the medicine for longer than 7 days. During diarrhea, ensure adequate water supply.
