There are insufficient studies on the use of oak bark during pregnancy and breastfeeding, or in children under 12 years of age. Preparations made from oak bark must therefore not be used by these people.

Precautions for use and warnings:
In cases of diarrhea, the most important therapeutic measure is fluid and salt (electrolyte) replacement.

Interactions with other medications:
Internal use: Drinking oak bark tea can delay the absorption of other medications taken at the same time; therefore, an interval of 1 to 1 hour should be observed before and after taking medication. External use: None known.

Unless otherwise prescribed, in cases of diarrhea, drink a cup of the following tea infusion twice a day: Pour about 150 ml of water over 1/2 teaspoon (approx. 1.5 g) of oak bark tea, heat to boiling for about 10 to 15 minutes, and then pass through a tea strainer if necessary. For rinsing, gargling, and preparing compresses, prepare an infusion in the specified amount or in the required multiple as follows: Pour about 100 ml of water over 2 g of oak bark, heat to boiling for about 10 to 15 minutes, and then pass through a tea strainer.
