Microbiome: key role in the defense against viruses
Probiotic bacteria are able to efficiently modulate the immune system and strengthen the mucosal barriers against pathogens, which has already been proven several times in large placebo-controlled studies. It is also known that the administration of special lactic acid bacteria, among other things, weakens the symptoms caused by the influenza virus and reduces the occurrence of viral respiratory diseases.
OMNI BiOTiC Pro-Vi 5 sachets 14X2 g bag:
Mechanisms of the probiotic defense against infection In
addition to activating the body's own immune system, probiotic bacteria have various mechanisms for interacting with viruses, such as:
1. Trapping Mechanism: This direct interaction is the most common mechanism by which probiotic bacteria inactivate viruses - it does this by causing certain strains of bacteria to attach viruses directly to their cell surface.
2. Active release of antiviral substances: Various so-called bacteriocins (such as hydrogen peroxide or lactate) can interfere with the interaction between virus and target cell and inhibit the virus from multiplying.
3. Receptor blockade: Probiotic bacteria adhere to the surface of epithelial cells and in this way prevent viruses from occupying receptors on the cell wall and thus penetrating the cell.
4. Modulating the immune system: Probiotic bacteria stimulate the release of immune substances such as interleukins and interferons. In addition, they activate "scavenger cells" (macophages), which absorb viruses and then break them down (phagocytosis).
