How does heartburn develop and what are the causes?
Heartburn, also known as reflux, occurs when stomach acid flows back up into the esophagus. Those affected feel this through a burning pain or a sour, unpleasant feeling in the throat. This happens, for example, if the stomach produces too much acid or if the muscle that closes the stomach to the esophagus no longer works properly for various reasons. There are many causes of heartburn: an unhealthy diet, consumption of nicotine or alcohol, obesity, a lot of stress and hectic pace, pregnancy and medication can all have an impact on heartburn.
Why does the stomach produce gastric acid?
Stomach acid is used for pre-digestion and kills bacteria contained in food. It therefore has an important task in the digestion of food components.
Is there long-term damage from untreated heartburn or excessive acid production in the stomach?
If stomach acid flows back into the esophagus regularly over a long period of time or if there is a constant excess of acid in the stomach, chronic changes can develop. Long-term damage such as inflammation of the esophagus, difficulty swallowing and other secondary diseases (such as gastric or duodenal ulcers) cannot be ruled out.
The gastric mucosa protects the stomach wall from stomach acid. However, if the stomach is constantly acidic, the gastric mucosa can be attacked and become thinner or more permeable. The result is: the stomach wall is damaged. Therefore, in the case of permanent heartburn, acid regurgitation or a feeling of a sour, burning stomach, a doctor should be consulted to clarify the cause.
How does Pantozol Control ® work ?
Pantozol Control ® inhibits the so-called proton pumps, which are responsible for the release of gastric acid in the gastric mucosa. Less aggressive gastric juice is formed and the backflow of gastric acid into the esophagus is reduced - day and night.
How is Pantozol Control ®applied?
For a good treatment success, 1 tablet should be taken daily on 2 to 3 consecutive days. Significant alleviation of symptoms often occurs the day after the first application. If you suffer from repeated heartburn or indigestion for a long time (more than 2 weeks), consult your doctor. Pantozol Control ® should not be taken for more than 4 weeks without medical advice.
