Prospan 35mg / 5ml syrup is a medicinal product with ivy leaf extract. The drug due to its expectorant effect is indicated for use in the case of wet cough. Preparation for use in adults and children over 2 years of age.
Composition of wet cough, ivy leaf extract, Prospan syrup:
Active substance: dry ivy leaf extract (Hederae helicis foil extractum siccum). 100ml syrup contains: 0.7g dry extract of Hedera helix L., folium (ivy leaf) (5-7.5: 1), extraction solvent: ethanol 30% (m / m) and excipients: liquid crystallising sorbitol (E420), potassium sorbitan (E 202), anhydrous citric acid, xanthan gum, cherry flavor, purified water.

Expectorant for wet cough. The active substance in Prospan is ivy leaf extract containing glyceridic triterpene saponins (alpha-hederin, hederagenin and hederacoside C). The syrup acts secretolytically, in other words, liquefies bronchial secretion, as well as spasmolytic, i.e. diastolic on bronchial smooth muscles. The drug facilitates expectoration.

The medicinal product Prospan syrup intended for use as an expectorant in wet (productive) cough. The drug is for use in adults and children over 2 years of age.

The product should be stored out of reach of children at room temperature. It is recommended to protect against moisture and light. The product does not contain sugar, it is suitable for diabetics. The medicine contains sorbitol (1.9g sorbitol in 5ml; 2.5ml syrup contains 0.963g sorbitol, or 0.08 bread units). Product without alcohol. Due to the content of natural ingredients, the syrup may become slightly cloudy. Use of the drug in women during pregnancy and lactation can only take place on the recommendation of a doctor, when the benefit to the mother outweighs the potential risk to the child. Do not use if you have hereditary fructose intolerance, unless your doctor tells you otherwise. If symptoms such as fever, bloody or purulent expectoration occur, you should immediately consult a doctor.
Contraindications:
Do not use in case of hypersensitivity to any component of the drug or to plants of the Araliaceae family. Do not use in children under 2 years of age (risk of worsening respiratory symptoms).
Side effects:
Some people may experience side effects while taking this medicine. Very rare: allergic reactions to ivy extract e.g. shortness of breath, swelling, redness and itching of the skin. Uncommon: gastrointestinal complaints may occur in sensitive individuals, e.g. nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, as well as laxative effects associated with the content of sorbitol.
Dosage of wet cough, ivy leaf extract Prospan syrup:
Use as directed by your doctor or as directed on the leaflet. Shake well before use. Measure out the syrup with the measuring cup included in the packaging. Adolescents over 12 years of age, adults: use 5ml three times a day. Children from 6 to 11 years of age: use 5ml twice daily. Children from 2 to 5 years of age: usually 2.5ml twice daily. Children under 5 years of age should consult their doctor. Use the medicine for at least 7 days (also for mild inflammation of the respiratory tract). If symptoms persist for more than 7 days, consult a physician.
