Senefol 0.3g x 40 tablets

  • Senefol 0.3g is a drug indicated for occasional use in the treatment of constipation. The active substance of the drug is senna fruit and leaves, which are a source of anthranoid glycosides. The drug affects the peristalsis of the large intestine and facilitates defecation.

Composition of Senefol 0.3g:

Active substance: senna leaf and fruit (Sennae foliolum cum fructu). One tablet contains 300mg of senna leaves and fruit, each tablet contains 7.5mg of hydroxyanthracene derivatives expressed as sennoside B and auxiliary substances: potato starch, colloidal anhydrous silica.

Action Senefol 0.3g:

One tablet of the medicinal product Senefol 0.3g contains 7.5mg of hydroxyanthracene derivatives in terms of sennoside B. Senna leaves and fruits contain anthranoid glycosides, from which active compounds are formed that affect the peristalsis of the large intestine, inhibit the absorption of water, thereby softening fecal masses and facilitating defecation. The indication for the use of this herbal medicine is the immediate treatment of constipation.

Application:

Senefol 0.3g is a medicinal product indicated for the immediate treatment of constipation. The drug is intended for adolescents over 12 years of age and for adults.

Additional information:

Store the product out of reach of children, at room temperature. It is recommended to protect it from moisture and light. The drug is not intended for long-term use. The decision to use it for a period longer than 1-2 weeks can be made by a doctor. Taking laxatives for a long time can disturb the functioning of the intestines and cause addiction. Preparations with hydroxyanthracene glycosides should only be used if proper bowel movement cannot be achieved by changing the diet. Do not use in people with fecal impaction and with gastrointestinal complaints such as: abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting, unless the doctor decides otherwise. These symptoms may indicate a risk of intestinal obstruction. In people with kidney disorders, there is a risk of electrolyte imbalance. Use of the drug in people with fecal incontinence requires more frequent diaper changes to avoid prolonged contact of feces with the skin. Drug interactions: in the case of chronic abuse of the drug may lead to hypokalemia (lowering of potassium concentration), then it is possible to intensify the effect of concomitantly taken cardiac glycosides, antiarrhythmic drugs, drugs prolonging the QT interval and drugs restoring sinus rhythm. Concomitant administration of the preparation with drugs causing hypokalemia, e.g. diuretics, adrenal cortex steroids, licorice root, may deepen the electrolyte deficiency. Use in children and adolescents: do not use in children under 12 years of age. Use in pregnant and lactating women: due to the lack of sufficient data, use is not recommended during pregnancy. Due to the lack of sufficient data on the passage of metabolites into milk, use during breastfeeding is not recommended. Small amounts of active metabolites (rhein) pass into the milk of nursing women, however, no laxative effect has been observed in infants. Driving and operating machinery: no effect.

Contraindications:

Do not use in case of hypersensitivity to any of the ingredients of the drug. Do not use in case of intestinal obstruction and stenosis, atony, appendicitis, inflammatory bowel diseases (e.g. Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis), abdominal pain of unknown origin, dehydration state combined with loss of electrolytes. Do not use in children under 12 years of age.

Side effects:

Some people may experience side effects while taking the drug. People who are hypersensitive to the ingredients of the drug may experience allergic reactions, such as itching, hives, and rash. Abdominal cramps and pain may occur. In such cases, the doses used should be reduced. Long-term use of the drug may cause darkening of the colonic mucosa (pseudomelanosis coli), which usually disappears after the drug is discontinued. The possibility of discoloration of urine by metabolites (pink or reddish-pink, depending on pH) is of no clinical significance.

Dosage of Senefol tablets 0.3g:

Use as directed by your doctor or according to the instructions on the leaflet. Use orally. Adolescents over 12 years of age, adults: take 2-4 tablets daily. Take before going to bed. Drink plenty of water. Maximum daily dose: 4 tablets. Due to individual sensitivity, dosing should be started with the lowest dose (1 tablet), if necessary it can be increased to establish an effective dose. Usually the laxative effect occurs after 8-12 hours. If the drug does not cause a laxative effect, take the next dose after 12 hours. Usually, taking the drug up to 2-3 times a week is sufficient to achieve a therapeutic effect.
