Constipation is a digestive disorder in which the stool becomes firm and hard. Evacuation requires great effort, occurs less frequently than usual, and is sometimes painful. The amount of stool excreted is incomplete or too little. Chronic, i.e. persistent constipation, is caused by personal lifestyle. Dietary errors (too few fruit and vegetables, too little fluid intake), suppression of the normal urge to defecate, too little physical exercise, emotional conflicts affect bowel movements.
