TAURINE

500 mg GPH Capsules

Taurine is a non-essential amino acid. The structure of this amino acid is simple and of small molecular size. Due to its simple structure, it has no L or D shape. This amino acid is not involved in the formation of protein and therefore not in the structural composition of proteins. In the body it occurs as a free molecule, particularly in brain tissue, central nervous system, heart and skeletal muscle. Taurine is present in all membranes of the body.

Taurine contains sulfur, as does L-methionine, L-cysteine, L-cystine and the body's own antioxidant L-glutathione. Taurine has several biochemical functions.

This amino acid is involved in the transport of ions - sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium and many others - across the cell wall and other membranes. It is therefore of vital importance for the brain, the heart, the eyes, the circulatory system and for the other organs and bodily functions.

Taurine also has the important function of binding bile salts. The bile salts are an important end product of cholesterol metabolism. After the oxidative conversion, the bile acids are bound to taurine or glycine. Thus, this amino acid counteracts the formation of gallstones.
