Body temperature
The human body regulates the body temperature to a set point and fluctuates by up to 1°C throughout the day. Over the course of life, the average body temperature can decrease by up to 0.5°C. Basically, the temperature in the body (core temperature) and the surface temperature on the skin are different. Therefore, measured body temperatures may differ depending on the location of the measurement (e.g. forehead, ear, mouth, rectum or armpit height) and should not be compared with one another. Take the temperature regularly using the same measuring method on the same part of the body to determine the normal temperature there, and then use these measurements as a basis for comparison for measurements where you suspect fever.

Body temperature in children
The simple and precise determination of body temperature is particularly important for children and babies. An elevated temperature is often a symptom of an illness, which can be used to better assess the course of the disease.

What is fever?
From a body temperature of 38° C (measured rectally) one speaks of fever. When you have a fever, the body's thermoregulation is disrupted and the temperature rises. In this natural reaction of the body to inflammation or illness, the defense processes are accelerated: endotoxins are released. The fever thus helps to fight pathogens in the organism. That's why a mild fever shouldn't be reduced with medication straight away.

Forehead measurement
When measuring the forehead, the infrared radiation emitted is measured on the forehead, whereby the forehead does not even have to be touched - which is particularly advantageous for sleeping patients. The infrared radiation hits the sensor and within a few moments the result is shown on the display.
