Hemopyrrolactamuria - better known as HPU or KPU - is a metabolic disorder in which the synthesis of heme is impaired. Affected people may suffer from an increased loss of micronutrients, which cannot be adequately compensated for through basic food intake. Among other things, the organism lacks important vitamins such as vitamin B1, B6 and folic acid, as well as essential minerals such as selenium, magnesium, manganese and zinc.
