It is responsible for increasing the absorption of phosphate and calcium in the gastrointestinal tract, as well as reabsorption of calcium in the kidneys and the concentration of calcium and phosphate in the blood. Cholecalciferol helps to facilitate bone mineralization as well as prevents calcium loss from the body.
