For topical therapy of proven nystatin-sensitive, intestinal yeast mycoses, especially after or during therapy with cytostatics, corticosteroids or antibiotics.
To eliminate or reduce the gastrointestinal yeast reservoir as a supplement to local therapy for existing oral or vaginal yeast infections.

indication

  • The preparation is a yeast-effective polyene antibiotic.
  • For topical therapy of proven nystatin-sensitive intestinal yeast mycoses, especially after or during therapy with cytostatics, corticosteroids or antibiotics.
  • To eliminate or reduce the gastrointestinal yeast reservoir as an adjunct to local therapy of existing oral or vaginal yeast infections.

dosage

  • Always take the preparation exactly as directed. Please check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
  • Dosage:
    • Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, the usual dose is:
      • For the treatment of yeast mycoses, please take 2 film-coated tablets (1,000,000 IU Nystatin) 3 times a day.
      • If necessary, the daily dose can be increased up to 12 film-coated tablets.
      • During therapy with yeast growth-promoting drugs, please take 1 film-coated tablet (500,000 IU Nystatin) 3 times a day.
      • To reduce or eliminate the occurrence of yeast in the gastrointestinal tract as a supplement to local therapy for existing oral or vaginal yeast infections, 1 - 2 film-coated tablets (500,000 - 1,000,000 IU nystatin) should be taken 3 times a day.

 

  • duration of use
    • When treating yeast infections, all sources of infection must be completely eliminated to prevent recurrence.
    • In order to achieve lasting treatment success, you should take the preparation regularly for at least 2 weeks.
    • To reduce or eliminate the occurrence of yeast in the gastrointestinal tract in the case of existing mucosal yeast infections (oral or vaginal candidiasis), 1 - 2 film-coated tablets should be taken 3 times a day. Treatment should be maintained until the risk of disease has passed.
    • Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect is too strong or too weak.

 

  • If you use more than you should
    • If you notice any side effects, please stop taking the product and contact your doctor or pharmacist.

  • The film-coated tablets should be taken after meals with sufficient liquid (eg 1 glass of water).

side effects

  • Like all medicines, this medicine can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
  • The evaluation of side effects is based on the following frequency information:
    • Very common: more than 1 in 10 people treated
    • Common: less than 1 in 10 but more than 1 in 100 people treated
    • Uncommon: less than 1 in 100 but more than 1 in 1,000 people treated
    • Rare: less than 1 in 1,000 but more than 1 in 10,000 people treated
    • Very rare: affects less than 1 in 10,000 people or unknown
  • Possible side effects:
    • The nystatin contained in the preparation is generally well tolerated.
    • Daily doses that are too high can occasionally promote the occurrence of temporary disorders in the gastrointestinal tract in sensitive patients.
    • In individual cases, allergic reactions of the skin and mucous membranes were observed.
    • Stevens-Johnson syndrome (fever and painful blistering of the skin and mucous membranes) has rarely been observed.
  • Countermeasures for side effects:
    • If side effects occur, please discontinue use and contact your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if any of the side effects gets serious, or if you notice any side effects that are not listed.

  • Taking other medicines:
    • Please inform your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking/using or have recently taken/used other medicines, even if they are non-prescription medicines.
    • No interactions are known.

Contraindications

  • The drug should not be taken
    • if you are allergic (hypersensitive) to the active substance nystatin or any of the other ingredients of this medicine.

pregnancy and breast feeding period

  • Nystatin, the active substance of the preparation, is hardly absorbed in therapeutic doses after oral administration, through the intact skin or through the mucous membranes. Nystatin does not cross the placenta and is not expected to be excreted in breast milk.
  • The medicine can be used during pregnancy and lactation.

  • Take special care when taking the product if the following applies:
    • Children:
      • Due to the high osmolarity of nystatin, its use in very underweight and immature preterm infants is not recommended.

 

  • Driving and using machines:
    • There are no special precautions required.
