- This medicine is a germicidal medicine for use in the vagina (gynecological antiseptic).
- It is used to treat bacterial inflammation of the vagina.

- Always use this medicine exactly as described or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Please check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
- Unless otherwise prescribed by the doctor, the usual dose is 1 vaginal suppository (equivalent to 90 mg Policresulen) daily.

duration of use
- It should be used until the symptoms of the disease have subsided. However, the duration of use should not exceed 9 days. Talk to your doctor if symptoms have not gone away after 9 days of treatment.
- It is not known how many women have bacterial vaginal infections (recurrence) after stopping treatment.
- Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have the impression that the effect is too strong or too weak.

If you use more than you should
- There are no known signs (symptoms) of overdose.

If you forgot the application
- Do not apply a double dose if you have forgotten the previous application, but continue the treatment at the usual time.

If you cancel the application
- If you want to interrupt the treatment, please talk to your doctor first.
- If treatment is stopped, the inflammation may come back, and further or different treatment may be necessary.
- If you have any further questions on the use of this medicine, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

- For insertion into the vagina.
- Insert the pessary deep into the vagina, preferably lying on your back. In order to prevent premature expulsion of the vaginal pessary, it should be used in the evening before going to bed. To make insertion easier, the vaginal pessary can be briefly dipped in water before use.
- Using a pad (napkin) avoids soiling the laundry.

Use together with other medicines
- Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking/using, have recently taken/used or might take/use any other medicines, even if they are non-prescription medicines.
- During treatment, the use of other vaginal drugs should be avoided, as interactions cannot be ruled out.

- During pregnancy and breastfeeding, these vaginal suppositories may only be used if strictly indicated, taking into account the risk for mother and child.

Warnings and Precautions
- Please talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine.
- Sexual intercourse must be avoided during treatment and for 10 days after the end of treatment.
- Washing with irritating soaps must be avoided during the treatment period.
- This preparation does not work against HIV infection or against sexually transmitted diseases such as e.g. B. gonorrhea or syphilis.
- It should not be used during menstrual bleeding.
- As a sign of the therapeutic effect, dead tissue can be expelled from the vagina - even to a large extent. Pads (bandages) should therefore be worn and changed regularly when they are dirty so that the tissue residue does not irritate the external genitals.
- If a vaginal suppository is accidentally swallowed, the affected person must immediately drink plenty of water and be examined and treated by a doctor as soon as possible for possible chemical burns to the mouth, throat and esophagus.
- In case of contact with eyes, immediately flush with water. If necessary, an ophthalmologist should be consulted.
- Textiles and leather should be cleaned with water immediately after contact with this medicine before drying.

How does the ingredient in the drug work?
The anti-inflammatory effect of Policresulen is based on two mechanisms: on the one hand, the active ingredient kills bacteria and, on the other hand, damaged tissue is replaced by healthy tissue. This supports the wound healing of the affected tissue.

- Children and adolescents under the age of 18: The medicine should not normally be used in this age group.
What about pregnancy and lactation?
- Pregnancy: consult your doctor. Various considerations play a role in whether and how the drug can be used during pregnancy.
- Breast-feeding: consult your doctor or pharmacist. He will examine your particular starting position and advise you accordingly as to whether and how you can continue breastfeeding.
If you have been prescribed the drug despite a contraindication, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. The therapeutic benefit can be higher than the risk that the use entails in the event of a contraindication.

What side effects can occur?
- Irritation of the mucous membranes, such as:
- Slight burning sensation on the mucous membranes
- Itching
- Hives
- Infections of the vagina with other pathogens against which the drug is ineffective (such as yeast fungi)
- Dryness of the vagina
The shedding of dead tissue is often seen as a discharge of shreds of mucous membrane and is a sign of the therapeutic effect.

- Be careful if you are allergic to the solvent polyethylene glycol (E number E 431)!
- Be careful if you are allergic to complexing agents (e.g. EDTA and triethylenetetramine)!
